Let’s get to Know Annie
Q. What made you say, “Yes, this is what I want to do”? Was there a lightbulb moment for Annie’s Home of Decor?
– The moment I decided to start my interior decoration business was when I realized how much joy I found in creating beautiful spaces. I had a lightbulb moment while redecorating my own home and saw how a few simple changes could transform the entire atmosphere. That sparked the passion to share that experience with others.
Q. How would you describe your personal style, and how does it sneak its way into your brand?
– My personal style can be described as a mix of cozy and eclectic. I love incorporating vintage pieces with modern touches, and that aesthetic definitely influences my brand. It sneaks into the designs I choose and the way I curate collections, making sure everything feels inviting yet unique.
Q. What was the very first item you sold, and how did that feel?
– The very first item I sold was a table and chair . It felt incredible to see someone appreciate my items enough to want to get more from me .That initial sale was a huge confidence booster and reinforced my belief in my creative vision.
Q. We all have our challenges—what’s been one of your biggest “oops” moments while growing your brand?
– One of my toughest moment was when I ordered a large batch of a popular item without ensuring or placing insurance on the item.It turned out that all the items got broken and I ended up loosing a lot of money. It taught me the importance of careful planning and inventory management.
Q. What’s a typical day like for you at Annie’s Home of Decor? Do you engage your customers or how does it work?
– A typical day at Annie’s Home of Decor involves a mix of creative work and customer engagement. I usually start by checking messages and responding to customer inquiries, then I spend time scouting out new products or working on marketing. Engaging with customers is essential, whether through social media or in-person events, as it helps build a community around the brand.
Q. Do you have a favorite piece from your collection right now that you secretly don’t want anyone to buy?
– Right now, I have a favorite piece—a handcrafted wall art that I just love. It has a special meaning to me, and while I know I should let it go, I secretly hope no one buys it so I can keep it for myself a little longer!
Q. If your brand had a personality, how would you describe it? Fun, chic, a little wild?
– If my brand had a personality, it would be fun and approachable, with a touch of chic. I want customers to feel excited and inspired when they interact with the brand, while also feeling comfortable and at home.
Q. Where do you see Annie’s Home of Decor going next? What is the next stage?
– I see my brand expanding into new product lines, possibly including home textiles and furniture. The next stage involves opening a store for my walk in customers and reaching a broader audience and finding innovative ways to connect with customers, like workshops or collaborations with other creatives.
Q. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received as a business owner?
– The best piece of advice I’ve received as a business owner is to stay true to my vision and values. It’s easy to get caught up in trends or what others are doing, but authenticity resonates with customers and builds lasting loyalty.
Q. For someone dreaming of starting their own business, what’s one thing you wish you knew before you started
– For someone dreaming of starting their own business, I wish I had known the importance of networking. Building relationships with other entrepreneurs and mentors can provide invaluable support and guidance as you navigate the challenges of starting and growing a business.
